II. GENERAL INFORMATION

a. Karen Hoffman: One resident applied and received LIHEAP around August 2024, does this person need to apply again now that LIHEAP is open for the new program year starting today, October 1?

1. Owen Carter: Seniors and disabled adults that applied the previous program year were mailed a letter to start a pre-application for this program year. This person is not automatically enrolled into LIHEAP again. That person needs to bring in the requested documents in that mailed letter and they need to sign some documents. If the application is approved, the customer would get a one-time credit onto their utility bill. That could take one or two billing cycles for the utility company to reflect that on the monthly bill statement.

b. Karen Hoffman: One of the issues discussed at last night’s meeting was issues with poverty. We are trying to find where we can find funding for programs residents need. The issues in Rockford are not centralized in one particular area. The problems are present in ever quadrant (north, south, east, or west.) When some residents say the issue is on one side, residents outside of that area will not concern themselves with those issues. In reality, every zip code is experiencing the conditions of poverty.
