State Senator Dave Syverson, a Republican from Cherry Valley, took part in the inaugural ceremonies of the Illinois Senate as the 104th General Assembly convened on January 8 at the State Capitol Building in Springfield. The oath of office was administered to newly elected Senators by Illinois Supreme Court Justice Mary Kay O’Brien.

Senator Syverson has been representing northern Illinois residents since 1993 and is recognized as the Dean of the Senate. He expressed his commitment to addressing challenges and seizing opportunities presented by each new General Assembly. "Each new General Assembly has its unique challenges and opportunities. Working with area legislators as a single voice in Springfield on behalf of our region, I will continue to reach across the aisle in both the Senate and the House of Representatives to speak our truth and face our challenges head on," Syverson stated. He emphasized bringing sound economic practices back to Illinois and prioritizing citizens' concerns and safety: "Together we will do what is needed to bring sound economic practices back to Illinois, and protect our citizens by putting their concerns and their safety first. A good job and safe communities solve so many issues facing families and Illinois."
