City of Carlyle Finance Committee met Jan. 13.

Call to Order/Roll Call

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Jeremy Weh on Monday, January 13, 2025, at 6:45 p.m. at Case Halstead Library located at 550 6th Street, Carlyle, IL 62231. Committee members present included Jeremy Weh, John Hodapp, and Jeff Taylor. Others present included Ryan Schmitt, Matt Wilson, Chad Holthaus, Joe Heiligenstein, Tammy Peters, Jim McClaren, Bruce Hilmes, Mike Jansen, Kevin Rolfingsmeyer, Brad Myers, Mayor Judy Smith, and Martha Reinkensmeyer.

Approval of Minutes

No minutes were provided. The minutes from the December 23, 2024, meeting will be approved on January 27th.

Approval of Claims

After reviewing the claims, John Hodapp made a motion to approve them. Jeff Taylor seconded the motion. After a voice vote, all were found in favor.

Review, Approve, & Complete Tree Removal Bid

Brad explained that there are 42 trees on the list for removal. The RFP was for the complete removal of the trees, including stump removal and seeding with grass. Ten companies turned in bids. (See the list below.) Brad stated that he suggested the committee recommend Meurer Brothers to council, due to the lowest bid being from a company located near Chicago. He added that during his time here, the list has grown from 26 trees to 42 trees and that city employees have been unable to keep up with the list. John Hodapp stated that he believes this is a lot of money to spend, especially when city employees are capable of removing some of them. Jeff Taylor then made a motion to recommend that council approve the bid from Meurer Brothers for the amount of $59,000.00. Jeremy Weh seconded the motion. After a voice vote, the motion passed. Aye: Jeremy Weh and Jeff Taylor. Nay: John Hodapp.
