The City of Rockford has announced it has been honored with a 2025 Gold Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health by Mental Health America (MHA) for the second consecutive year.
MHA, recognized as the leading community-based nonprofit in the country, focuses on mental health, well-being, and illness prevention on a broad scale. In 2019, MHA introduced the Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health to acknowledge organizations that prioritize workplace mental health and implement supportive practices and policies for employee well-being.
The Bell Seal provides recognition at four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Achieving Bell Seal certification requires meeting stringent standards, and only two in five employers qualify. The City of Rockford went through a detailed evaluation of its policies in workplace culture, benefits, compliance, and wellness programs.
Mayor Tom McNamara highlighted the significance of the certification by stating, “Supporting the mental health of our employees is not only the right thing to do—it’s a smart investment in the overall well-being and success of our organization.” He emphasized that the certification underscores the city's commitment to a workplace that values mental health and employee wellness.
