FOIA Request to City of South Beloit Regarding Newly Registered Businesses on May 7, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of South Beloit. This request seeks access to records concerning businesses registered with the city in the past week. Specifically, we are requesting a list that includes the following details for each business:
- Business Name
- Business Number
- Business Type
- Business Address
- Issued Date
- Status
- Registered Agent Name
Our role as media professionals involves gathering and reporting news to the public, holding public institutions accountable, and ensuring transparency. Access to these public records is essential for fulfilling these responsibilities. Given our position in disseminating information, we believe we qualify for a fee waiver as media professionals.
Additionally, it is important to note that this request is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Missouri Corporation. This organization assists news media companies, publications, and public advocacy groups in investigating state and federal governmental agencies by leveraging Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws. Their efforts aim to increase transparency and inform the American electorate about government actions.
