Description: The following people have been nominated by their peers for going above and beyond in District 100! Thank you all so much for continuing to send in your shout outs to recognize our outstanding staff here in D100.
∙ Kirsten Ahlberg, BHS - Kirsten did a wonderful job organizing all of the activities required through the Stronger Connections Grant. The Stronger Connections Grant allowed our secondary students, staff, and parents to learn more about mental health and steps to take if / when support is needed. The grant also provided students with one on one counseling. Kirsten's leadership helped everything run smoothly throughout the year and made a positive impact on supporting our D100 students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Submitted by Megan Johnson
∙ Michelle Helgeson, BHS - Michelle worked collaboratively with the School Social Worker and the IEP team for a student needing significant supports at BHS. She assisted with implementing supports, analyzing data and contributing to the creation of an environment at BHS where the student can experience success. Her support to the IEP team and the student in commendable. Submitted by Janette Juric
∙ Heather Perez, BHS - Heather has demonstrated exceptional dedication and collaboration with the IEP team for a student requiring substantial support at BHS. She has also worked diligently with an outside agency to support teachers in
creating a supportive environment that fosters the student's success. Her resilience and unwavering commitment to refining strategies and exploring new approaches to support this student are truly commendable. Submitted by Janette Juric
∙ Corynne Wesselhoff, Rob Wesselhoff, Brenda Branham, Kayla Siemers, Michael Ries, & Sarah Garby, BHS & BNHS - The Essential Elements Teachers at BNHS & BHS have worked collaboratively to create a Community Based Instruction Manual that outlines the process of implementing CBI within our district. Their outstanding teamwork and passion and dedication to their students was evident throughout the development of the manual and reflected in their commitment to the development of a more clearly defined transition framework. Submitted by Janette Juric
∙ Dawn Jackson, CES Parent - I want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude for the incredible contributions Dawn Jackson has made during her time at Caledonia School.
Over the past six years, she and her son, Lennon, have truly embodied the spirit of kindness and generosity. From their memorable walks down the hall delivering thoughtful teacher appreciation and Christmas gifts, to the countless boxes of food donated for our food drives, their impact has been remarkable. This year, in Lennon's final year, Dawn went above and beyond by donating teacher appreciation gifts for the entire staff, many valued at over $100. Additionally, her generous gift of a beautiful mural in the library media center will be a lasting reminder of their contributions. Dawn and Lennon's smiles and kindness will surely be missed by all of us. Thank you for being such an essential part of our school community. Submitted by Kelly Cotter

Student feedback highlighted a more engaging and meaningful learning experience than previous platforms (Edgenuity and Edmentum’s Skilled Tutorials). Subject.com offers a variety of instructional formats, including short videos (3–6 minutes), review activities, assignments, and quizzes, which promote deeper understanding and retention. Courses are available in both English and Spanish, with Spanish versions mirroring the English content exactly to ensure equitable access for bilingual learners. Notably, the Spanish videos use advanced AI to dub the original content while adjusting mouth movements to match the translated dialogue, creating a seamless and authentic viewing experience.
Approve the 3-year contract for Subject.com's credit recovery program.
31. Cafeteria Furniture Invitation to Bid
Recommended Action:
Approve the bid response from Educational Environments in the amount of $149,068.62 for the purchase of cafeteria tables for Caledonia, Lincoln, and Meehan Elementary Schools.
Background Information:
As part of the district’s 1–3-year capital improvement plan, the
replacement of cafeteria tables was identified as a priority due to the poor condition of the existing tables at Caledonia, Lincoln, and Meehan Elementary Schools. The new tables will enhance inclusivity by providing seating options for ADA and SPED students alongside their peers. Additionally, two allergy-sensitive tables have been included to accommodate specific student health needs.
The specified tables, manufactured by AMTAB in Bensenville, Illinois, offer excellent durability and come with a limited lifetime warranty. We issued an Invitation to Bid (ITB) and received seven responses— four meeting the specification with AMTAB products and three offering alternate manufacturers.
A detailed scoring rubric was used to evaluate submissions based on:
∙ Durability and construction
∙ Safety features
∙ Cost and value
∙ Warranty
∙ Ease of cleaning and mobility
∙ Proximity of vendor support (within 100 miles)
We conducted reference checks with the two highest-rated vendors to confirm both product satisfaction and after-sale service. Based on these evaluations, Educational Environments (Frank Cooney & Associates), a long-term district partner offering the AMTAB tables, was determined to best meet our needs.
While we recognize that AMTAB tables come at a higher cost than the lowest-priced alternative, they represent the best overall value for our district and students. Their proven quality, durability, long-term warranty, and local service support make them a fiscally responsible investment aligned with our educational and operational goals.
This project is aligned with board-approved 1–3-year priority initiatives and is funded through Fund 60. The total bid of $149,068.62 is $53,431 under the budgeted amount of $202,500.
Total Cost $149,068.62
Administrative Recommendation:
To approve Educational Environments bid response of $149,068.62.
Approving the purchase of cafeteria tables not to exceed $149,068.62 for Caledonia, Lincoln, and Meehan schools.
32. Kindergarten Furniture Purchase
Kindergarten Classroom Furniture
Goal 2: Learning Environment
Administration recommends purchasing furniture from Lakeshore for $179,345.15
33. Toro Invitation to Bid
Toro Lawnmower Purchase Goal 5: Operational Resources
Administration recommends purchasing a Toro lawnmower for $168,311.02
34. Cell Phone/Electronic Devices Use - Research Study Our strategic plan goal two specifically looks at the importance and impact of the learning environment on student achievement and well being. The rise in student cell phone and electronic device use during the school day is impacting attention, engagement, and social emotional well-being in classrooms across the country. As educators, it's critical that we examine how these devices affect learning environments and relationships—and develop a clear, consistent approach that puts student success first. By forming a research study team, we can ensure that any district-wide practice is informed by research, aligned with our values, and responsive to the real challenges and opportunities technology presents in our schools.
This team will examine the role of cell phones and personal electronic devices in our schools and recommend a consistent, district-wide practice that supports student learning, engagement, safety, and well-being. By August, the team will deliver a recommendation for a district-wide cell phone/electronic device practice that is research based, equitable, and aligned to the needs of our learning community.
35. Stronger Connections Grant
Belvidere District 100 applied for and received the Stronger
Connections Grant for this school year. The grant has allowed for
individualized, clinical counseling for students at the secondary level. The grant is set to expire June 2025 and we would like to continue these services for our at-risk students.
Consider utilizing local funds while administration continues to look for grant funding to cover the costs of clinical counseling.
