Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met May 19.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
Chairman Baumgartner called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Barber, Dan Baumgartner, Dave Bennington, Don Self and Jamin Unger
Staff present: Sally Bennett & Adam Bunge
Motion by Mr. Baumgartner, second by Mr. Unger, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of May 5, 2025. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.
PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
VILLAGE ENGINEER – ADAM BUNGE
Village Engineer Adam Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.
MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON
Mayor Peterson stated that he was at a meeting with other realtors and they were inquiring if Rockton residents need to disclose the PFAS in the drinking water. Mayor Peterson said that he reached out to the IEPA, but he hasn’t heard back from them yet.
Mayor Peterson stated that Mark Peterson sent an example of a brochure that he wanted to use for the Village Administrator position and Mayor Peterson kicked it back to him to change a few things. Mayor Peterson advised the Committee that we have 31 applicants thus far for the position and that 5 of those are qualified to be interviewed.
BUILDINGS AND PARKS – DAN BAUMGARTNER
None.
WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JAMIN UNGER
Mr. Unger stated that the low bid from Northern Illinois Service Co. for the Hawick & Prairie watermain project in the amount of $226,888.50 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on May 20, 2025. The Committee is okay with this.
STREETS AND WALKS – DAVID BENNINGTON
None.
PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER
Mr. Barber stated he has three items up for approval at the Village Board meeting. Mr. Barber advised the Committee that over the weekend there were three water lines that broke. Mr. Barber said that he had to bring in a boring company to help with the repairs and that they are all fixed. Mr. Barber added that the Public Work Department has been very busy.
Mr. Barber stated that he spoke with Atty. Szeto in reference to the Village’s right of ways. Mr. Barber said that with Metronet coming through the area, the right of ways are getting way too full of utilities.
PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF
Mr. Self advised the Committee that the pool is scheduled to open on Saturday. Mr. Self said that the pool is half full and that the pump is frozen. Mr. Self added that there is a watermain leak at the pool located behind the men’s showers, but that he’s working on repairing this. Mr. Self stated that the new ADA lift chair for the pool arrived and that he’s putting this together. Mr. Self said that the new drain covers in the pool were installed this morning. Mr. Self advised the Committee that the new burner unit was also installed and there is a pin leak in the probe in the electrical system. Mr. Self said he was able to solder this and that Nelson Carlson ordered a new one. Mr. Self stated that the pool will be up and running by Wednesday, but the forecast for Saturday is a high of 63 degrees which makes it hard to heat the pool. Mr. Self said that a staff meeting is being held tomorrow at 5:00 pm at the pool.
Mr. Self added that he is getting a quote for concrete underneath the benches in Settlers Park.
