State Senator Dave Syverson (R-Cherry Valley) participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for two adaptive baseball fields at Darryl F. Lindberg Park in Rockford. The event took place on Tuesday and included members of the Rockford Buddy and Allstar baseball teams.
“This project is about making sure every kid has the chance to get on the field, be part of a team, and enjoy the game,” said Sen. Syverson. “It’s a big step forward for accessibility and inclusion in our community.”
The new fields are designed with features to accommodate athletes with disabilities, including wheelchair-accessible dugouts, paved pathways to the diamonds, and accessible amenities like drinking fountains.
Beyond the baseball fields, plans include a pavilion, expanded parking, and a multi-use field for sports such as floor hockey, soccer, and flag football.
Senator Syverson played a role in securing $500,000 in state funding for Project Home Base.
