Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met July 14.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Mr. Unger called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Barber, Dave Bennington, Don Self and Jamin Unger Staff present: Sally Bennett & Adam Bunge (6:34 pm)

Absent: Dan Baumgartner

Motion by Mr. Bennington, second by Mr. Unger, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of June 30, 2025. All ayes. Motion approved 2-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

VILLAGE ENGINEER – ADAM BUNGE

Mr. Barber updated the Committee about Village projects until Mr. Bunge arrived. Village Engineer Adam Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.

MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON

Mayor Peterson advised the Committee that the mayor, some trustees and the police chief from Hinkley, Illinois will be visiting the Rockton River Market (RRM) on Wednesday. Mayor Peterson said that Hinkley would like to create a market similar to ours and observe how things are done.

Mayor Peterson commented that the Village Administrator interviews will be held this coming Friday.

Mayor Peterson stated that “Summerpalooza” was held this past Saturday and it was the best attendance we’ve seen at this event.

BUILDINGS AND PARKS – DAN BAUMGARTNER

Mr. Unger stated that the purchase requisition for Play & Park Structures for a cantilever umbrella for Walt Williamson pool in the amount of $21,849.88 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on July 15, 2025. The Committee was okay with this.

WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JAMIN UNGER

Motion by Mr. Unger to approve the purchase requisition for Boss 811 for the J.U.L.I.E. locate tracking software subscription in the amount of $2,750, second by Mr. Bennington. Mr. Barber stated that there is a free two-week trial of the software program to ensure that the Village likes it before we purchase it. Roll call. All ayes. Motion approved 2-0.

STREETS AND WALKS – DAVID BENNINGTON

Mr. Bennington stated that the purchase requisition for Warning Lights of Southern Illinois for street signs, posts and hardware in the amount of $17,791.80 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on July 15, 2025. The Committee was okay with this.

Mr. Bennington added that the purchase requisition for Miller-Bradford & Riseberg, Inc. for a 2025 Bo Mag BW900-50 roller in the amount of $24,500 is also up for approval at the Village Board meeting. The Committee was okay with this as well.

PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER

Mr. Barber advised the Committee that there was a sinkhole on Shore Lane. Mr. Barber stated that the Public Works Department ran a camera in the storm sewer lines and discovered that there were gaps in the joints. Mr. Barber said that it was repaired by Northern Illinois Services and there wasn’t a charge for the repair.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF

Mr. Self stated that the adult swim participants were very excited to hear about the new cantilever umbrella being ordered for the pool since this will help shade an area of the pool.

Mr. Self said that they lost power at Barwood Park after the storm on Friday.

Mr. Self added that some of the disc golf supporters will be at the next Public Works Committee meeting in August because they would like to request making the disc golf course permanent at Barwood Park.

None.

Motion by Mr. Bennington, second by Mr. Unger, to adjourn at 7:08 pm.
