The Illinois Senate Republican Caucus will hold its annual Veterans Day Wall of Honor display at the Statehouse from October 28 to November 13. The event gives families in Illinois a chance to honor loved ones who have served in the military.
The memorial will include an electronic display featuring veterans and their stories, as well as a wall where visitors can leave notes of thanks.
Senator Dave Syverson is asking friends and families to send in a photo and a written story of up to 250 words about their veteran. Submissions should include the veteran’s name, military branch, and conflict served. Military photos are preferred but not required.
Submissions can be emailed to veteransday@sgop.ilga.gov by October 24 for inclusion in the display at the Illinois State Capitol. They may also be mailed to Veterans Day Wall, 110 D Statehouse, Springfield, IL 62706. For questions, people can call (217) 782-1154.
Syverson has represented Illinois' 35th Senate District since his election in 1993, when he succeeded Christine J. Johnson.
