State Senator Dave Syverson has expressed concern over the recent passage of an energy omnibus bill, arguing that it will not help families struggling with increasing energy costs. According to Syverson, the legislation will instead result in an $8 billion increase for ratepayers, expand battery projects he describes as unproven, and reduce local authority by permitting large installations near residential areas. He stated, "Illinois deserves a plan that lowers costs and strengthens reliability—not one that doubles down on failed policies."

Syverson also criticized the approval of Senate Bill 2111 during the final hours of the fall Veto Session. He claimed that this measure would delay numerous road projects in various communities because more than $500 million is being redirected to support Chicago’s mass transit system. “Hundreds of millions of dollars in road projects across our communities will now be delayed because more than $500 million is being diverted to bail out Chicago’s mass transit system,” Syverson said.

Syverson has represented Illinois’ 35th Senate District since his election in 1993, succeeding Christine J. Johnson.
