Rep. Jeanne Ives (R-Wheaton) reminded all citizens of the dangers police officers face in a release after Jaimie Cox, a Rockford police officer, was killed in the line of duty Nov. 5.
“The men and women who make the commitment to keeping us safe are everyday heroes, and we should always remember the risks and sacrifices they make to observe their fellow Illinoisans,” Ives said in the release.
Ives added that Cox’s death was also a tragic reminder to civilians in political office of the importance of “always having the backs of our brave men and women in uniform.”
The officers that are in our community are protecting and serving us all, Ives said in the release.
According to recent reports, Cox is the seventh Rockford officer killed in the line of duty in 100 years.
“It is my sincere prayer that all who serve are returned safely to their families,” Ives said in her release. “I join Illinoisans across the state in keeping Officer Cox, his family, and all those close to him in our thoughts and prayers. May God grant them peace and comfort during this difficult time."
