Incumbent Kinzinger wins GOP primary for congressional race in District 16

Congress

Incumbent U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Channahon) was the runaway winner in his House Congressional District 16 race against Republican challenger Jim Marter during last month's primary election.

Kinzinger had 44,535 votes for a total of 67.97 percent to Marter’s 20,985 votes for 32.03 percent.

Throughout his campaign, Kinzinger fended off digs from Marter about having voted yes to Obamacare in 2017. More recently, he has voted to repeal the law.

Now in his fourth term, Kinzinger has long promoted a platform of economic stability and ending the country's reliance on other nations for energy sources.

Kinzinger has also advanced such legislation as his Truth in Spending Act, a proposal that stipulates that the U.S. Office of Management and Budget review and report any bill from the last five to 10 years to determine if the cost of the bill is worth the regulation it provides.

In arguing for another term, Kinzinger defended his record to MyStateLine.com, telling the website "I believe in spending less money, I'm pro-life, I'm pro-Second Amendment. You go all the way down the line, I was the first member of Congress to say we need to bomb ISIS. That's important. I follow, right down to what Republicans believe."
