State Rep. John Cabello (R-Machesney Park) said "Gov. J.B. Pritkzer's (D) 'needs to resign' after using the term "Nazis" to describe supporters of President Donald Trump (R)."
"I just think he needs to resign,” said Cabello. “I mean look, all he's trying to do is get national attention because if you look at the polls for anybody running for president, he is at the very bottom and so he is doing everything and anything that his multi-billionaire ass can do to get the attention that thinks he deserves”
“It's absolutely ridiculous,” said Cabello. “We need grown-ups in these positions and what he did was childish and he should resign."
"I do not invoke the specter of Nazis lightly... I'm watching with a foreboding dread what is happening in our country right now,” said Pritzker in his State of the State Address on Feb. 19.
Cabello previously told Fox32Chicago that Prizker's comments were "disgusting," and State Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) said the governor’s comments “will only incite the violence he claims to condemn.”
Cabello is the State Representative for Illinois' 90th District, having assumed office on January 11, 2023. He previously served as the representative for the 68th District from August 2012 until January 2021. Cabello has been a police officer for nearly three decades and has served on the Winnebago County Board and the Harlem Township Board. He resides in Machesney Park, Illinois. In the Illinois House, Cabello holds the position of Assistant Republican Leader and serves as the Republican Spokesperson for the Appropriations-Public Safety Committee. He is also a member of the Executive, Immigration & Human Rights, Judiciary - Criminal, and Police & Fire Committees. Cabello is running for re-election in the 2024 general election.
