Cherry Valley FPD responds to 72 fires in 2017

Cherry Valley Fire Protection District responded to 154 calls in 2017 - 38.7 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Cherry Valley included 72 fires - 32 structure fires, 12 vehicle fires and 28 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $251,500 in fire loss - or about $3,493 per fire.

The department also received 79 false calls, including two malicious calls and 77 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and two were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Cherry Valley Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $3,796,640 in 2017.

The Cherry Valley FPD Firefighter's Pension Fund, which has 17 active employees and retired or inactive employee, was $62,019 positive as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,590 for every fire in 2016.
