Rockford Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on Aug. 22.
Mercyhealth is pleased to announce Joanna Benning, Vice President of Facilities and Construction, is named one this year’s recipients of the 2018 Women in Construction awards by Construtech magazine. Benning was honored at a reception and dinner at Carlucci Restaurant in Rosemont, Ill., August 22. The awards Gala included a special panel discussion with women in the construction space, talking about challenges in the industry today, such as the skilled labor shortage, and how they can come together to solve them.
Benning is overseeing construction of the new Mercyhealth Riverside campus, scheduled to open in January 2019. The $505 million construction project is the largest in Rockford history. It will be a state-designated referral center, receiving patients from a 15-county region for high-risk maternity, neonatal intensive care, pediatrics and pediatric critical care, adult critical care, and trauma. With its location on the I-90 interstate at the Riverside exit, the new campus enhances regional access to these critical tertiary level services and ensure a robust volume and variety of patients for the residents’ clinical training.
