Vandals recently took out their political frustrations on the Winnebago County Republican Party headquarters in Rockford, Illinois, scrawling the words "rape" and "shame" across the building with red and yellow spray paint, according to a Twitter post.

Scot Bertram, general manager of radio station WRFH, posted photos of the damage, showing the graffiti on several brick walls and glass front doors.

State Rep. John M. Cabello (R-Machesney Park) condemned the incident via social media

“We can have our differences,” Cabello said in a Facebook post. “We can have good spirited debate. I hope (whoever) is responsible for this will be brought to justice. You are a coward for doing it unless you come forward!”

Cabello, the 68th District representative, urged supporters to show restraint, prohibiting any talk of “retaliation or violence” or assigning blame for the incident.

In November, Cabello will face Democrat Jake Castanza. The district includes the cities of Loves Park and Rockford, as well as the townships of Cherry Valley, Harlem, Owen and Rockford.
