Retired Rockford School District 205 employee Barbara Dockins saved $78,273 toward her pension over 21 years working for public schools, Illinois Teachers' Retirement Fund (TRS) records show.
Over 35 years of retirement, Dockins would collect as much as $1.549 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Rockford Sun.
Dockins, 60, who currently lives in Rockford, earned $60,894 in her final year at Rockford School District 205.
The projection assumes Dockins will receive 39.4 percent of that total - $24,010 - in her first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.
After three years of retirement, Dockins will have already received $74,212 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of her contributions to the state teachers' pension fund.
According to the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), 16.8 percent of Rockford School District 205 students met or exceeded the standards for the "PARCC" exams. ISBE reported that 29.2 percent of district's graduates were deemed "college ready" last year.
