MERCY ROCKFORD HEALTH SYSTEM: Mercyhealth Announces Successful Opening and Transfer of 123 Patients

Mercy Rockford Health System issued the following announcement on Jan. 5.

Mercyhealth is pleased to announce it has safely and successfully transferred 123 patients in less than 10 hours from its Javon Bea Hospital-Rockton to its newest location, Javon Bea Hospital-Riverside.

Mercyhealth’s Javon Bea Hospital and Physician Clinic-Riverside, a $505 million regional tertiary specialty women’s and children’s hospital, adult hospital and multi-specialty clinic in Rockford, is the largest construction project in the city’s history. The new facility, which houses the only state-designated children’s hospital in northern Illinois and a Regional Perinatal Center with 52-bed level III (highest level) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, opened its doors to patients on January 5.

“Today is a new day for health care in Rockford,” said Javon R. Bea, President and CEO of Mercyhealth. “We are here to give the community more services than ever before with care for adults of all ages and highest level of care for the youngest patients throughout an 11-county region in northern Illinois and a 4-county region in southern Wisconsin.”

There was no disruption in patient care. Each and every patient was safe and taken care of. Eighty-nine patients remain on Mercyhealth’s Javon Bea Hospital and Physician Clinic-Rockton, which will continue to provide exceptional primary and specialty care services, including inpatient and emergency services.

“I am grateful for the safe and successful transfer of patients. We continue to provide exceptional health care services with a passion for making lives better at all of our facilities,” Bea continues. “Whether you receive care at our Rockton Campus or Riverside Campus—or our hospitals in Janesville, Lake Geneva or Harvard—the best possible care now closer than ever before.”
