Winnebago County issued the following announcement on May 8.

Winnebago County State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite Ross announces that two Rockford men have been indicted for a series of armed robberies in Rockford and Loves Park last month.

On April 19th, 2019, Rockford Police Officers were called to 200 S. Gardner after a report of an armed robbery. Officers observed a female victim who reported that two men, inside a red pickup truck, pointed gun at her and demanded money.

A short time later, on April 19th, 2019, Rockford Police responded to the 3400 block of Liberty Drive after a male on a bicycle reported a red pickup truck pulled up beside him. The victim told police that the passenger inside the truck, pointed a gun at him and forced him off the roadway.

On April 20th, 2019, at approximately 1:45am, Rockford Police Officers were dispatched to a Rockford hospital to investigate an armed robbery. Upon arrival, police met with a male victim, who had visible injuries to his face. The victim told police a red pickup truck pulled up next to him while he was at a stoplight in Loves Park when a male got out and approached his vehicle. The suspect pointed a gun at the victim and demanded money. During the course of the armed robbery, the victim was struck multiple times in the face with the weapon. The Loves Park Police department were notified and conducted a follow up investigation.

Later in the evening on April 20th, Rockford Police responded to the 4100 block of Harrison Avenue for another armed robbery. Upon arrival, officers met with a male victim, who reported he was inside his vehicle, when a male approached and asked him for money. The suspect struck the victim numerous times in the head with a glass bottle. During the course of the attack, the suspect took the victim’s wallet, car keys and cell phone from inside the victim’s vehicle.

Rockford and Loves Park Police Detectives conducted follow-up investigations that were reviewed by the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office. As a result, Bradley L. Wooden (D.O.B. 6/5/1996) and Joseph R. McCormick (D.O.B. 9/24/1992) were charged and recently indicted by a Grand Jury. The defendants face bills of indictment for each of the offenses that include charges of Attempt First Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, Attempt Armed Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery, Vehicular Invasion, Aggravated Robbery, Burglary, Aggravated Battery and Mob Action,

Attempt First Degree Murder is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.

Armed Robbery is a Class X Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 6-30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.

Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery is a Class 1 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 4-15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by three years of Mandatory Supervised Release.

Attempt Armed Robbery is a Class 1 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 4-15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release.

Vehicular Invasion is a Class 1 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 4-15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release.

Aggravated Robbery is a Class 1 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 4-15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release.

Burglary is a Class 2 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 3-7 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by two years of Mandatory Supervised Release.

Aggravated Battery is a Class 3 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 2-5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a year of Mandatory Supervised Release.

Mob Action is a Class 4 Felony that is punishable by a sentence of 1-3 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by a year of Mandatory Supervised Release.

Wooden and McCormick are scheduled to be arraigned at 9:00am on May 30th, 2019, in front of the Honorable Judge Randy Wilt in Courtroom B at the Winnebago County Criminal Justice Center.

The charges are merely allegations and the defendants are presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
