Former state university employee Michael Meinert, who retired in July 2018, saved $43,245 toward a pension over 12 years working for state universities, State Universities Retirement System of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Meinert would collect as much as $626,345, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Rockford Sun.

After 4 years of retirement, Meinert will have already received $55,078 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the state pension fund.
