Former state school employee Remley paid in $17K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $807K in retirement

Former state school employee Melinda Remley, who retired in October 2018, saved $17,278 toward a pension over 10 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Remley would collect as much as $806,997, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Rockford Sun.

The projection assumes Remley received $16,962 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 2 years of retirement, Remley will have already received $34,433 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
