City of Rockton Public Works Committee met June 17.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairman Fridly called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm.

Members present: Mayor Adams, Dan Barber, Kevin Bunge, Scott Fridly, Cory Magnus (6:31 pm), Jodi May and Don Self

Motion by Mrs. May, second by Mr. Fridly, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of June 3, 2019. All ayes. Motion approved 2-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE

Village Engineer Kevin Bunge gave his report. A copy of his report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.

MAYOR - DALE ADAMS

Mayor Adams stated that the Village should start receiving more motor fuel tax (MFT) funds starting in September or October. Mr. Magnus said that the MFT funds will increase to approximately $290,000 from $194,000.

WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – SCOTT FRIDLY

None.

STREETS AND WALKS – CORY MAGNUS

None.

BUILDINGS AND PARKS – JODI MAY

Mrs. May stated that the purchase requisition for McGilvra Electric for exhaust blowers repair/refurbish at the pool at cost of $1,590.05 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on June 18, 2019. The Committee was okay with this.

Mr. Self spoke to the Committee in reference to the OSLAD grant and explained that this is a matching grant that could be used for the pool. Mr. Self stated that the grant must be submitted by October. Mr. Fridly advised Mr. Self to put together some numbers for the next meeting.

PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER

Mr. Barber advised the Committee that the library would like to install an indoor sprinkler system and he advised them that they would need to obtain a right of way permit from the state because it involved digging on Highway 75. Mr. Barber stated that he wanted the Committee to be aware of this.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF

Mr. Self stated that another baseball tournament was held at the athletic fields this past weekend. Mayor Adams inquired about getting better signage for the athletic fields because he was asked several times where the athletic fields were located by people who didn’t know how to get there.

Mr. Self updated the Committee about the pool and stated that currently the heat exchangers are plugged at the pool and that he would like to get a consensus to get this repaired. Mr. Self said that Brian Elmer Company wouldn’t be available for a few days to repair it and that he needs it fixed as soon as possible because the pool doesn’t have a heater. The Committee advised Mr. Self to look into whoever can get there and resolve the issue.

Mr. Self asked the Committee if he should have Settlers Park sprayed for mosquitos by Mosquito Joe. Mr. Self said that one treatment costs a little over $300 and he could have a series of applications done for around $700. The Committee was okay with this.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS ALLOWED BY LAW

Mrs. May asked about having the lines repainted in the 100 block of E. Main Street because they were never painted properly by the state after the Highway 75 project. Mr. Barber stated that he will look into this.
