Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met Nov. 18.

Here is the agenda provided by the committee:

Chairman Fridly called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Adams, Dan Barber, Kevin Bunge, Scott Fridly, Cory Magnus, Jodi May and Don Self

Motion by Mrs. May, second by Mr. Magnus, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of November 4, 2019. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE

Village Engineer Kevin Bunge gave his report. A copy of his report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.

MAYOR - DALE ADAMS

None.

WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – SCOTT FRIDLY

Mr. Fridly discussed the process of delinquent water bills with the Committee. Mr. Barber stated that he is working on making changes to the current ordinance. Mr. Barber said that he needs to talk to Jean Carlson, Water Clerk, about the changes and discuss them with Attorney Szeto. Mr. Barber added that he doesn’t believe in delinquent water bills. Mr. Barber stated that if a resident doesn’t pay their water bill when its due on the 21st of the month and it’s not caught up in full by the 21st of the following month then they need to have their water shut off. Mr. Barber said that residents are not receiving door hangers to have their water shut off until they are three months behind and many of the residents are repeat offenders.

Mr. Fridly also discussed the lift station project and waiving the bid process for this. Mr. Barber advised the Committee that the project was budgeted for and that he sent out a Request for Proposal (RFP) to six companies. Mr. Barber stated that he received responses from only two companies and that Pollardwater came in lower at $17,986.09. Mr. Barber said that this is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on November 19, 2019 and that he will check with Ms. Quimby, Village Treasurer, to make sure that the funds are available. The Committee was okay with this.

STREETS AND WALKS – CORY MAGNUS

None.

BUILDINGS AND PARKS – JODI MAY

Mrs. May stated that the special events application for the Rockton Christmas Walk to be held December 6th – 8th is up for approval at the Village Board meeting as well. The Committee was okay with this.

PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER

None.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF

None.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS ALLOWED BY LAW

Mrs. May commented that she has received numerous complaints about leaf burning in the Village and inquired if the Village has considered a leaf burning ban. Mr. Fridly stated that the Village goes through this every year with complaints and that leaf burning is allowed in April, October and November. Mrs. May advised the Committee that there is petition circulating among residents to ban leaf burning in the Village and she wanted everyone to be aware of it.
