II. COMMITTEE REPORTS
1. 2020-123-CR - Committee recommends approval of the proposed amendment to Section 117-5 of the City of Rockford Code of Ordinances – “Posting handbills, other advertising,” to allow advertising on RMTD bus shelters. The Legal Director shall prepare the appropriate ordinance.
The proposed amendment for consideration would allow one (1) advertisement per shelter of twenty-one (21) square feet. The ad is still required to be placed on the opposite side of the shelter from oncoming traffic. However, the advertisement is permitted to be viewable from both the inside and outside of the shelter (placement back to back).
Ald. Quinonez asked about political signs. Assistant City Attorney Lafakeria Vaughn explained that Rockford Mass Transit District has its own guidelines for advertising. She further explained that it is her understanding that political ads are restricted but she would have to verify that.
With no further business before the Committee, the meeting was adjourned.
RESULT: APPROVED BY COMMITTEE [UNANIMOUS]
MOVER: Franklin C. Beach, Alderman
SECONDER: Tuffy Quinonez, Alderman
