ILLINOIS STATE HOUSE DISTRICT 67: Pappas Fights for Affordable Health Care, Supports Health Insurance Research

67

Illinois State House District 67 issued the following announcement on June 1

This past session, state Rep. Diane Pappas, D-Itasca, supported a measure that seeks to explore potential solutions to make health insurance more affordable for Illinois residents.

“The COVID-19 outbreak has shined a light on the devastating health outcomes that can result from lack of access to health care,” said Pappas. “Making health insurance more affordable is a critical step in our efforts to contain the spread of viruses like COVID-19 and protect the public’s wellbeing.”

To help expand access to health care, Pappas supported Senate Bill 1864, which strives to research alternative options to make health insurance more affordable in Illinois. This measure would create the Health Care Affordability Act, which would direct state agencies charged with regulating insurance and health care to report the findings of their study to the General Assembly and the governor to help craft effective policy solutions. The bill passed the House and Senate with bipartisan support and was sent to Gov. JB Pritzker’s desk to be signed into law.

“No family should be forced to choose between a visit to the doctor and keeping food on the table,” Pappas said. “To build a stronger and more equitable Illinois, I am committed to fighting for a health care system that is at a price everyone can afford.”

Residents can stay informed on developments with the COVID-19 pandemic by reviewing the State of Illinois website at www.coronavirus.illinois.gov. Pappas encourages residents with questions or concerns to contact her district office at 224-520-8838 or email RepDPappas@gmail.com.
