State Senator Dave Syverson (R-Cherry Valley) marked the first anniversary of the Hard Rock Casino in Rockford, highlighting its impact on the region since opening.
“I worked for 20 years to make this project a reality and it was worth the wait. In the end, we got without question the best gaming partner in the world and at the best location possible to attract visitors from around the Midwest,” Syverson said.
The casino has attracted over one million visitors in its first year, becoming a prominent destination in northern Illinois with its entertainment options, gaming facilities, and dining choices.
Syverson noted that his commitments to the community have been fulfilled. “What makes me feel good about this project is that everything I promised the community when working on legislation has not only been met but exceeded. Hundreds of jobs have been created, millions in local taxes generated, and millions donated to charitable causes,” he said. “I want to personally thank Hard Rock for their willingness to invest in Rockford and for exceeding all the commitments they made as part of the agreement.”
Local families have seen direct benefits from the casino’s operation. The facility has generated more than $8 million in local tax revenue so far. A notable share of these funds supports initiatives like the Rockford Promise Scholarship Program, which helps students access tuition-free higher education opportunities.
Syverson has served as a Republican state senator representing Illinois’ 35th Senate District since 1993, after succeeding Christine J. Johnson.
