Mercy Rockford Health System issued the following announcement on June 11.
Panda Express® recently donated $26,784 worth of personal protective equipment (PPE) to Mercyhealth’s frontline staff in Janesville, Wisconsin and Rockford, Illinois. The donation included 8,640 KN95 respirator masks to the health care workers. Furthermore, the company also provided over 900 hot meals to Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center-Janesville staff working on April 28.
All masks will follow strict fit testing measures to ensure safety protocol standards are met before use. The masks help keep doctors, nurses and essential health care workers protected as they continue to care for children and adults during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are so incredibly thankful Panda Express is helping us join in the fight to limit the spread of coronavirus, and for protecting our health care workers, patients and families,” Joel Prah, Vice President of Supply Chain, Mercyheath. “Panda Express has made an extraordinary effort to donate PPE the hospital relies on to provide the very best, compassionate care.”
Mercyhealth is one of many hospitals across the U.S. to receive PPE donations from Panda Express. To date, Panda Cares has raised $6.36M through its COVID-19 Community Care Fund, and donated PPE equipment to over 80 hospitals in need.
“During this time of crisis, we remain committed to our mission of supporting the health and well-being of our communities,” said Dr. Peggy Cherng, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Panda Restaurant Group. “With the help of our generous guests, we’ve been able to continue providing essential workers with much needed equipment to protect patients and health care workers. This donation is our way of saying thank you to all the heroes at Mercyhealth who are risking their lives every day for those in need.”
