Republican state House hopeful Kathie Hansen is set to host a Sept. 9 fundraiser in her run in the 67th District.

The two-hour event kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at Murphy’s Pub and Grill in Rockford with tickets priced at $30 each and $50 per couple. Sponsorships are available ranging from $250 for bronze and $1,500 for platinum packages.

“Everyone I’m talking to is excited about the campaign and more committed than ever to bringing change to Springfield,” Hansen added. “They’re happy to have someone who shares their same ethical values in the fight to represent them.”

Hansen said much of her message has focused on the theme of reviving Illinois and enacting legislation that finally starts to address all the ethical lapses suffered by Democrats, including her opponent, state Rep. Maurice West Jr. (D-Rockford).

“We’ve got to do something,” she said. “We can’t just keep burying our heads in the sand. Too many people are suffering.”

Thus far, Hansen said much of her campaigning has centered on going door to door and doing a few more mailers. With just over two months before Election Day, she said she is hoping the fundraiser will make it easier for her to reach more people in less time.

“With everything that’s happening, this, to say the least, is unusual,” she said. “Any way you can get your voice out there without compromising your message makes sense.”

Hansen said she doesn’t think her opponent has had that problem.

“I’ve got a great deal of suspicion that he’s being funneled funding from (embattled House Speaker) Mike Madigan,” she said. “With all the scandal, I’ve called on him to ask Madigan to step down, but still nothing.”

No matter what, Hansen said she remains sure of one thing.

“Mike Madigan has to go, and there’s no question about it,” she said. “Not much good can happen as long as he’s still in charge.”
