Cherry Valley FPD responds to 66 fires in 2018

Cherry Valley Fire Protection District responded to 164 calls in 2018 - 6.5 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Cherry Valley included 66 fires - 41 structure fires, five vehicle fires and 20 other fires. The fire department also responded to three calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $235,551 in fire loss - or about $3,569 per fire.

The department also received 95 false calls, including three malicious calls and 92 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in fire-related incidents and three were injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Cherry Valley Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $3,575,957 in 2018.

The Cherry Valley FPD Firefighter's Pension Fund, which has 17 active employees and one retired or inactive employee, was $195,340 positive as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $2,713 for every fire in 2017.
