CITY OF ROCKFORD: Faith Leader Challenge

Announcement

City of Rockford issued the following announcement on Apr. 29.

Mayor McNamara recently launched a Faith Leader Challenge. He encouraged faith leaders and their congregations to walk the neighborhood around their houses of worship regularly to meet people face-to-face and build authentic relationships to create community.

Here are some examples of what the faith leaders are doing:

• "We are having an event called Serve Saturday on May 22. We will be walking the neighborhood and passing out bags of groceries, cleaning up trash along the way and stopping to meet neighbors, as well as looking for any neighborhood needs." - Norma R. Borrero, Life Church South Campus

• "We hosted PB&J Thursday and a Friday Pop-Up Market. We are planning a front lawn neighborhood 'hot dawg' feed in the near future." - Jeremiah Griffin, Halsted Road Baptist & Living Stones Churches

• "I've been out sharing plants and gardening tips with neighbors and checking on a home that is empty. Making small steps but planning to go further soon." - Judy Moe, Rockford Bahá’í Center
