Rockford University issued the following announcement on Nov. 20
The Rockford University women's basketball team (3-2) pounced on the Principia College Panthers (0-2) in a Saturday afternoon game that was in favor of Rockford for nearly the entire game, ending in a 72-62 final score. It was a slower first half for both teams, neither converting many points, but the second half play heated up and saw plenty of three-point contributions by Natalie Posadas and Evelyn Abundes to help establish a strong Rockford lead. Principia finally found its footing late in the third quarter, but the Panthers were unable to reduce the deficit. Rockford won its third game of the season and put the Regents back above .500 on the year with a final score of 72-62.
Regent Recap
- A slow start by both teams put the score at 5-6 Rockford after the first five minutes of play.
- The remainder of the first quarter saw little change, the quarter ending at only 15-10, Evelyn Abundes hit a nice 3-pointer to keep the Regents ahead.
- The second quarter was all Regents. going on a 17-9 run to take a large lead into halftime. Anaya Davis led the scoring in the quarter with six, and Lamyia Maebane, Natalie Posadas, and Audrina Terhune all had three pointers in the quarter. Rockford took a large lead into the half, 32-19.
- Coming out of the half, it was a balanced third quarter between the two teams 23-20 in favor of Rockford. Multiple Regents recorded points in the quarter, but Evelyn Abundes led the offense with seven points in the quarter. Principia pulled within seven points with four minutes remaining, but the Regents pulled back ahead by 16 points to end the third quarter after an Anaya Davis buzzer beater 55-39.
- The Panthers came out and won the final quarter of play, scoring more than the Regents, but point contributions by multiple players on Rockford kept the game out of reach, securing the win for the Regents 72-62.
- Anaya Davis has now gone back-to-back games with a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, both team-highs.
- Natalie Posadas had 11 points, including 3 three-pointers, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, and a team high 7 assists.
- Evelyn Abundes recorded 4 made shots, all of them from the 3-point line, finishing with 13 total, and adding 5 rebounds.
- Audrina Terhune had 5 assists, 5 rebounds, and finished with 9 points.
The RU women's basketball team will head to Marian University on Tuesday, November 30th for the team's first NACC game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7pm.
