The Friends Forever Humane Society and State Rep. Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) are partnering to host a pet rescue fair to offer residents a chance to connect with adoptable pets.
The fair is scheduled from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 11 at Friends Forever Humane Society at 966 West Rudy Road in Freeport. People who attend can bring donations of pet food or supplies, and visitors can meet Chesney and the staff at the Humane Society. Those who come can also learn about state programs, and take advantage of half-price cat adoptions.
“There is always a need for responsible pet owners to share their love and homes with furry friends seeking their forever homes,” said Chesney, who owns a rescued Labrador. “We hope that this will help begin the process of placing available rescue pets with loving owners in time for the holiday season.”
Friends Forever Humane Society, founded in 1953, is a nonprofit focused on the welfare of companion animals. The shelter survives on generous donations and work from volunteers as it does not receive funding from city, county, or state taxes. Friends Forever Humane Society has helped over 10,000 animals in need.
Earlier this month, Chesney hosted a prescription drug drop-off event in Durand. The public was encouraged to bring by any unused or outdated prescription drugs in exchange for a 3’ x 5’ American flag. All of the collected medications were incinerated.
In June, Chesney launched a campaign against what he called anti-gun amendments to House Bill 562, also known as the FOID overhaul.
