The Rockford University women's basketball team (14-9, 9-7 NACC) took down Alverno College (1-20, 0-14 NACC) on senior day with a final score of 80-56. Rockford held the lead almost the entire game and was able to dominate in rebounds and points in the paint, leading the Regents to a strong 24-point victory. With the 14th win in today's game, the Regents have guaranteed a winning season record, the first winning season for the program since 2008. RU also currently sits at 9-7 in conference play, putting them one win away from tying the best NACC record in program history set back in 2011 at 10-7.
REGENT RECAP
- The first quarter was all Regents. Rockford gave up the first basket of the game and then went on to score 14 straight points over the course of the quarter. Roshanda Stevens scored the team-high six points in that span.
- Alverno scored the final four points of the quarter, the Regents were in the lead 14-6 heading into the first break.
- Rockford continued to build its lead at the start of the second quarter, going on a 9-4 run. Jocelyn Callahan led the scoring with five points on a three-pointer and layup.
- The Inferno stepped up right after, shooting 4-for-4 on three-point attempts to eliminate the Regents lead and put the score at 26-22.
- Rockford finished out the quarter scoring seven points compared to Alverno's five to take a 33-27 lead into the half.
- Both teams came out of halftime on fire to start the third quarter. Neither side missed a shot for the first two and a half minutes of play. The run was in favor of Alverno 11-9, but Audrina Terhune scored five of the nine points to help keep Rockford ahead.
- The Regents took a large lead again when Anaya Davis scored eight straight unanswered points on layups to give RU a 50-38 lead. Rockford continued the run for eight more points to bring an end to the third quarter up by 20 points, 58-38.
- The fourth quarter was more of the same as Rockford built up to a 76-49 lead, the team's largest of the game.
- The two sides played out the remainder of the game and Rockford secured the win comfortably with a final score of 80-56.
- Anaya Davis led in scoring and rebounds with 22 points and 17 boards. Davis also recorded 3 assists.
- On her senior day, Naynay Clark led the Regents in assists with 4. She also had 7 rebounds, a block, a steal, and 9 points.
- Roshanda Stevens led the team in steals with 5 while also scoring 11 points.
- Da Sani Hannah scored 6 points and grabbed 8 rebounds to help the Regents.
- Audrina Terhune scored 10 points.
