State Rep. Tom Demmer (R-Freeport) updated constituents on his activities during a trip to Springfield on Wednesday in a Facebook post.

Demmer said that he was interviewed by WFMB radio host Sam Madonia and toured a local manufacturing facility during his visit.

"We had a great day in Springfield yesterday," he said in the post. "I was happy to end the day by joining my friends state Rep. Tim Butler and Wayne Rosenthal in supporting Sandy 4 Senate."

Demmer recently attended the annual Ogle County Governor Lowden Dinner as well, according to Illinois Valley Times. Chairperson Stacy Flanagan celebrated Demmer's birthday and shared a photo of him as a child.

"We had some fun at the Ogle County GOP Lowden Dinner yesterday; Chairwoman Flanagan got the laughs with her belated birthday wishes to me," Demmer said in another Facebook post.

Demmer secured the Republican nomination for state treasurer without opposition in the June 28 election. He will run against incumbent Michael Frerichs (D) in the upcoming November election, Journal Star reported.

The representative is skeptical of the state budget that was enacted earlier this year and addressed his concerns during a May press conference, according to Illinois Valley Times.

"The budget the Democrats passed this year sets Illinoisans up for a series of tax increases in future years as a result of their inevitably increasing spending at a time when revenues are declining," Demmer said. "... If we just look at normal state spending, normal state operations for education and public safety and health care, normal state spending is growing by over 10% in this year's budget."
