Rep. Joe Sosnowski (R-Rockford) announced that General Mills will open their facility a year from now.
In an Aug. 25 Facebook post, Sosnowski announced that a new General Mills factory broke ground in Belvidere.
“A new 1.3 million square foot distribution center broke ground today. General Mills will open the facility a year from now. Congratulations to all those involved with the project," Sosnowski said.
In his Facebook post, Sosnowski shared a link to a news story about the groundbreaking. WREX.com quoted Nisar Ahsanullah, Director of Supply Chain Logistics and Customer Operations at General Mills: "Between our current plant in Belvidere and our other facilities in the region, General Mills has been a part of this community for over 20 years,” Ahsanullah said. “This new 1.3 million-square-foot state-of-the-art warehouse and distribution center will greatly add to our capacity and allow us to better serve our customers and consumers across the Upper Midwest.”
The project will bring realignment of a curve on Irene Road and will occupy 110 acres of land annexed and zoned for use by Belvidere and Boone County.
In June, WFIR reported that construction of the 1.3 million square foot warehouse and distribution center is expected to take a year.
