Women's Volleyball Falls in NACC Opener at Dominican

The Rockford University women's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought match 3-0 on Wednesday evening at Dominican University. Although Rockford fell in straight sets, the match was extremely close for much of the night, with the first two sets being decided by a total of just six points. Rockford led late in both sets, but unfortunately, it was the Stars who were able to close out all three and secure the 25-23, 25-21, 25-18 win.

  • The lead changed hands multiple times during the middle of the set, with both schools stringing together large scoring spurts.
  • With Rockford now leading 20-18, Dominican used a 5-1 run to seemingly take control of the set.

  • Rockford led for much of the early portion of the second set, including jumping out to a quick 4-1 edge. However, the Stars would eventually battle back to grab a 15-14 lead midway through.
  • Fortunately, Rockford answered right back with a 5-2 run to pull back in front 19-17. Alex Burton led the charge with a pair of kills.
  • The back and forth affair continued with Dominican running off 5 straight points and taking a 22-19 advantage.
  • The Regents were able to cut the lead to two twice, including at 22-20, but Dominican closed on a 3-1 run to take a 2-0 lead.
  • The third set was again extremely close through the first 19 points, with Dominican holding a 10-9 advantage.
  • Unfortunately, the Stars scored 10 of the next 12 points to seize control of the set and ultimately the match.
  • The Regents were unable to get any closer than six the rest of the way, dropping the third set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
