The Rockford University women's volleyball team gave Benedictine University a hard time on the way to a 3-0 loss Tuesday night. Rockford played some of its best volleyball of the season, regularly competing with the Eagles in a match where a few points could have changed the outcome in each set. The Regents led in total attacks, but the errors proved very costly, earning Benedictine a number of points that made the difference by the end of the match. Della Crain stepped up for the Regents, sharing the team-high in kills with 8 and tying her season-high in blocks with 3.
REGENT RECAP
- Benedictine started off hot, grabbing the lead at 5-1.
- The Eagles continued the run into the middle of the set at 13-5 and held the lead until an eventual score of 20-14.
- In danger of losing the first set, the Regents rallied and scored the next 5 points to pull within one point at 20-19. Alex Burton and Melody Moreno each had two kills during the run.
- BenU halted the run and took 5 of the last 6 points to take the set 25-20.
- Benedictine took the lead to start set number two at 9-7.
- The Regents took their first lead of the match shortly after, earning 5 straight points, including two straight kills by Della Crain.
- Rockford held the lead until 16-12, but the Eagles took 7 of the next 9 points to regain the lead with the score at 19-18.
- The second set got much more exciting after this point, BenU went up 24-21 and Rockford surged back to tie it at 24-24.
- After keeping it square at 25-25, Benedictine got the final two points right after and took the second set 27-25
- The two sides continued the back-and-forth battle in the start of the third set, working the score to 15-13.
- Benedictine then took a larger lead once again and never gave it back, concluding the final set 25-17 in the Eagles favor.
- Della Crain had 8 kills and 3 blocks with a team-high .292 hitting percentage.
- Brynn Atwell led in digs with 15.
- Jessica Witkowski was the lead setter with 17 assists.
