Women's Volleyball Falls in Final NACC Match of the Season

The Rockford University women's volleyball team was defeated in three sets by the Concordia Chicago Cougars in the team's final NACC game of the season. Rockford held in with CUC for all three sets, but stalled toward the end of each, where the Cougars capitalized and took the match 25-16, 25-20, and 25-22. Della Crain led the Regents attack; she finished leading the team in kills (9) and aces (3).

REGENT RECAP

  • Rockford started off the match on a roll, going up 5-3. Alex Burton led the offense with three kills during the run.
  • CUC managed to sway the momentum, however, pulling into the lead shortly after, at 15-11.
  • Concordia Chicago took over for the rest of the set, pulling ahead and eventually taking four of the final five points, winning the set 25-16.
  • The second set started with CUC out in front 4-1, but a Regent run put Rockford ahead 12-11. Alexis Brashaw and Della Crain each recorded a kill, and Nicole Eggers earned two kills during the run.
  • The Cougars repeated the comeback again, taking a lead at 18-14.
  • The Regents battled, but never managed to pull within less than four points, dropping the second set by a final score of 25-20.
  • Set number three was a back-and-forth battle between both sides, neither able to gain an advantage until the middle of the set.
  • RU gained some momentum at the 8-7 mark. Rockford took seven of the next ten points to pull ahead into a 13-10 lead.
  • The Cougars flipped the set on its head shortly after, taking six straight points and getting back in front 16-13.
  • Rockford clawed back into the match and put pressure on CUC at the end of the set at 22-22, but the Concordia Chicago offense dominated, taking the final four points, including the match point, taking the win 25-22.
STAT LEADERS

  • Della Crain led the team in kills with 9 and service aces with 3.
  • Brynn Atwell had the team-high in digs with 10.
  • Jessica Witkowski recorded 13 assists.
  • Alexis Brashaw tallied 3 solo blocks to lead the Regents.
