The Rockford University women's basketball team fell in its opening game of the 2022-23 campaign to the Lawrence University Vikings by a score of 46-58. The Regents were within striking distance for the first quarter of play, but Rockford fell behind in the second after only scoring 5 points in the 10-minute span. Rockford also ran into serious foul trouble in the second half, losing three players by the end of the contest, limiting the Regents options on the floor. The Regents managed to win the points battle in the fourth quarter at 17-15, but ultimately fell at the final horn, dropping to 0-1 on the season, 58-46.
REGENT RECAP
- Lawrence opened the scoring within the first 40 seconds of the contest to take the two-point lead.
- Rockford tied the game at the 8:30 mark of the first quarter. Katie Paredes scored the first points of the season and earned her first points in her collegiate career.
- Lawrence went up 5-2 at the mid-way point of the first quarter, but Katie Paredes and Audrina Terhune each hit a shot to give the Regents the lead at 6-5.
- Lexi Keating scored the final three points of the quarter for Rockford on a free throw and layup, but the Regents trailed 14-11 at the break.
- RU was held to one point through the first half of the second quarter, Tyra Clark hitting a free throw.
- Jocelyn Callahan made a layup and Audrina Terhune tacked on a pair of free throws by the end of the quarter, but a dominant show of defense from the Vikings put Rockford in a hole 29-16 at halftime.
- Lawrence started off the quarter on a high note, hitting a three-pointer right after the break.
- Rockford made up some ground after the opening basket, going on an 11-4 run throughout the quarter. Lamyia Maebane and Tyra Clark led the scoring with four and three points, respectively.
- The Vikings hit their stride again, however, ending the third quarter with a 7-2 run against Rockford. Tyra Clark hit the layup for the Regents at the 1:45 mark.
- The fourth quarter had a trio of Regents combine for 15 points by the end of the quarter. Katie Paredes, Julie Bailey, and Kyla Wilkerson each had five points for the Regents offense.
- Unfortunately, Rockford played out a back-and-forth battle with Lawrence in the final quarter, never allowing the Regents to pull back into the contest. Kyla Wilkerson grabbed an offensive rebound and put back a layup before the final horn, but Rockford was defeated by the Vikings 58-46
- Katie Paredes finished with a team-high of 9 points and pulled down 8 rebounds.
- Tyra Clark grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds and earned a team-high 4 steals. She also finished with 6 points, 3 assists, and a block.
- Kyla Wilkerson scored 5 points in the fourth quarter and had 3 steals and 4 rebounds.
- Audrina Terhune had 8 points, 3 assists, and 4 rebounds.
