Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met Dec. 19.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairman Seever called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Barber, Adam Bunge, Arianne Honkamp, Jodi May, Tyler Seever and Don Self

Absent: Kevin Bunge

Motion by Ms. May, second by Mrs. Honkamp, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of December 5, 2022. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE

Village Engineer Kevin Bunge was absent; Adam Bunge gave their report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.

MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON

Mayor Peterson advised the Committee that Ms. Hughes sent out the financial statements for October and November and asked everyone to take a look at them.

STREETS AND WALKS – TYLER SEEVER

None.

WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JODI MAY

Ms. May stated that Ordinance 2022-32: An Ordinance Amending Title V (Public Works) of the Code of Ordinances of the Village of Rockton, Winnebago County, Illinois Regarding Sewer and Water Utility Billing Procedures is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on December 20, 2022. Mr. Barber stated that he worked on this ordinance with Ms. Hughes and Attorney Szeto in order to establish certain procedures for utility bills that are not paid on time. The Committee was okay with this.

BUILDINGS AND PARKS – ARIANNE HONKAMP

None.

PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER

Mr. Barber advised the Committee that Well #8 is abandoned right now and that he has turned in approximately $6,000 from scrap from the project.

Mr. Barber stated that he currently has five Public Works employees that are off of work due to illness.

Mr. Barber informed the Committee that he is working on financial planning right now using the new software that he is trying out for the free trial period.

Mr. Barber advised the Committee that they are preparing for the big snow that is supposed to come on Thursday.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF

Mr. Self stated that the ice rink at Village Green Park should be up and running tomorrow. Mr. Self said that he is pretty close to finalizing the bid documents for lawn mowing/maintenance.

Mr. Self stated that he is still getting quotes for water heaters at the swimming pool and that it’s going to cost approximately $11,000 for two water heaters.

Mr. Self added that he will be ready for the snow on Thursday as well.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS ALLOWED BY LAW

Mayor Peterson advised the Committee that Chief Hollinger has someone he would like to hire part-time for the police department. Mayor Peterson stated that this person would also do code enforcement for the Village.

Motion by Ms. May, second by Mrs. Honkamp to adjourn at 6:46 pm.
