Sen. Dave Syverson (R-Rockford) took to Facebook on Jan. 31 to thank a local school for participating in the Valentines for Seniors program.
"Shout Out and Thanks to the students at Martin Elementary in Lake in the Hills and Principal Michele Happold for participating in our Valentines for Seniors program. They had students create special cards for seniors. #valentinesforseniors," he wrote.
Syverson announced the annual Valentines For Seniors program on Jan. 19, saying that he and Rep. Jeff Keicher (R-Sycamore) would be accepting donations of Valentine cards for seniors and people living in long-term care facilities.
Cards will be accepted at their senate offices through Feb. 7, according to Syverson's website.
Syverson said cards were already pouring into his office, which he noted in a Jan. 30 Facebook post.
"Valentines for Seniors are starting to arrive! Thank you 35th District! Keep ‘em coming!" he wrote.
Those who wish to participate may drop off or mail cards to the following offices: 200 S. Wyman, Suite 302, Rockford, IL 61101; 158 W. State Street, Suite C, Sycamore, IL 60178; or 115 W. Oak Knoll Dr., Route 72, Hampshire, IL 60140.
