Q3 2022 Recap: 8 parolees from Winnebago County convicted of sex crimes set for release

There were eight offenders convicted of sex crimes living in Winnebago County released on parole during the third quarter of 2022, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Rockford Sun.

The data shows all of the released offenders among the parolees were men. The median age of the parolees sentenced for sex crimes was 44. The youngest parolee was a 29-year-old man sentenced in 2021, and the oldest was a 76-year-old man sentenced in 2022.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Byron McNew. He was convicted in 2009 when he was 22 years old. He is now 36.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The following table shows how many offenders convicted of sex crimes were paroled during the third quarter of 2022 in each Illinois county.
