Illinois Senator Steve Stadelman announced in a news release on May 1 that Winnebago County would receive over $50,000 in funding for local tourism organizations. This news was released on May 1, and it's great news for the local community.

In his statement, Senator Stadelman emphasized that Illinois is an excellent place to visit, with many iconic stops in cities across the state. He expressed his excitement about the support these grants would bring to the community and its tourism industry. Senator Stadelman has been representing the people of the 34th district since 2012. Prior to his election, he worked as a television news anchor.

"Illinois is a great place to visit with iconic stops in so many cities across the state," Stadelman said. "From the Discovery Center Museum to Loves Park, our community has so much to offer. I look forward to the support these grants will bring."

According to a press release, the funding comes from two programs: the Route 66 Grant Program and the Illinois Travel and Tourism Grant Program. These programs will support several organizations in the 34th district, including the Discovery Center Museum of Rockford, Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden, and Loves Park. The Discovery Center Museum of Rockford will receive $30,355, while Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden and Loves Park will receive $10,000 each.

The projects funded by these grants will focus on a variety of initiatives across the state, such as installing iconic Route 66 signage, pylons, and monuments, as well as investing in museums, exhibits, service areas, and rest stops. Additionally, the projects will focus on building out EV infrastructure and promoting the state's tourism areas as EV destinations, in line with the state's transportation sector's evolution towards more electric vehicles.

In conclusion, this funding will provide much-needed support to Winnebago County's tourism industry, helping to promote the state's unique destinations and enhance the travel experience for visitors. It is yet another example of the important work that elected officials like Senator Stadelman do to support their communities.
