Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met April 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairman Seever called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Barber, Arianne Honkamp, Jodi May, Tyler Seever and Don Self

Staff present: Adam Bunge & Kevin Bunge

Also present: Dave Winters

Motion by Ms. May, second by Mrs. Honkamp, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of April 3, 2023. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE

Village Engineer Adam Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office. Mr. Bunge advised that the Race Street reconstruction project will be delayed starting by one day due to the snow.

MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON

Mayor Peterson advised the Committee that he is going to be in Springfield for “Lobby Day” on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Mayor Peterson said that he should have answers by the end of the week regarding the water issue

Mayor Peterson said that he met with a representative from Thayer (car charging company) and that there is grant money out there that would cover 80% for car charging stations. Mayor Peterson stated that he just started looking at this and that he is not ready to do anything yet, but it’s something to think about five years from now.

STREETS AND WALKS – TYLER SEEVER

None.

WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JODI MAY

None.

BUILDINGS AND PARKS – ARIANNE HONKAMP

None.

PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER

Mr. Barber advised the Committee that Atty. Szeto is currently working on an agreement with Mercy Health so that they can install two antennas on the Village’s water tower for the Rockton Fire Protection District. Mr. Barber stated that Mercy Health will be charged $750/month for this.

Mr. Barber stated that the Public Works Department has been very busy. Mr. Barber said that they are waiting on a permit from the state to complete work on a catch basin on the Highway 75 bridge. Mr. Barber added that he suspended a Public Works employee for two days without pay due to an incident that damaged the Public Works building. Mr. Barber stated that if this happens again, the employee will be terminated.

Mr. Barber advised the Committee that he looked into an alternative to the guardrail for the Race Street project and that a black chain link fence (4 feet tall) would cost $19,722 for 216 feet of fence versus the guardrail that would cost $28,000.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF

Mr. Self stated that Nason’s Landscaping started lawn maintenance for the Village under the new contract and that he will let them know that we aren’t ready for them to start mowing the Goldie Floberg property yet.

Mr. Self said that Trickie Enterprises will be sealcoating in Settlers Park and that they will have everything done before Old Settlers Days.

Mr. Self advised the Committee that he is interviewing for concessions, lifeguards and part-time help.

Mr. Self stated that Hononegah High School baseball is in full effect and that Stateline started baseball practice at the athletic fields.

Mr. Self added that the pool leak is getting excavated on Wednesday and that he is hoping that it’s just a gasket issue.

Motion by Ms. May, second by Mrs. Honkamp to adjourn at 7:02 pm.
