Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met June 5.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
Chairwoman May called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:30 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Barber, Dan Baumgartner, Arianne Honkamp, Jodi May and Don Self
Staff present: Adam Bunge
Motion by Mr. Baumgartner, second by Mrs. Honkamp, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of May 15, 2023. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.
PUBLIC COMMENT
None.
VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE
Village Engineer Adam Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.
MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON
Mayor Peterson advised the Committee that someone from Goldie Floberg will be at the Village Board meeting to hand over the keys for the building. Mayor Peterson stated that the Village will need to change the locks afterwards. Mr. Barber said that Mayor Peterson added there is a jiu-jitsu business that is possibly interested in renting space at the Goldie Floberg building, but may also be interested in the property on Hawick Street to the east of the condos and businesses. Mayor Peterson added that the Secretary of State is interested in possibly adding a driver’s license facility at the Goldie Floberg building as well.
Mayor Peterson stated that there was a Summit condo association meeting at Village Hall today and that they had concerns about the new water rates because the condo associations are being charged commercial rates for watering. Mayor Peterson said that he brought this up in the Administration Committee meeting and that we may want to think about this and change it. Mr. Barber stated that he will talk to the water clerk about this as well.
WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JODI MAY
Ms. May discussed waiving the formal bid process for cleaning and disinfecting Well #10 and the purchase requisition that is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on June 6, 2023 for Cahoy Group in the amount of $49,990 to do this. The Committee was okay with this.
STREETS AND WALKS – DAN BAUMGARTNER
Motion by Mr. Baumgartner to approve the purchase requisition for Sealmaster for traffic marking paint and glass beads in the amount of $6,274.50, second by Ms. May. Roll call. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.
Mr. Baumgartner stated that Ordinance 2023-15: An Ordinance Amending Section 92.096 of the Code of Ordinances of the Village of Rockton, Illinois Regarding the Duty to Cut Weeds and Grass is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on June 6, 2023. The Committee was okay with this.
BUILDINGS AND PARKS – ARIANNE HONKAMP
Motion by Mrs. Honkamp to approve the purchase requisition for Nelson Carlson for parts and labor for a RPZ 3” backflow device for the pool in the amount of $4,652, second by Mr. Baumgartner. Roll call. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.
Mrs. Honkamp stated that the approval of the engineering costs payment for the Rockton Road bike path in the amount of $40,000 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on June 6, 2023. Mrs. Honkamp advised the Committee that this was previously approved (MFT funds). The Committee was okay with this.
PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER
Mr. Barber stated that he has lots going on with the Public Works Department. Mr. Barber said that he is currently working on record keeping, water box replacements, GIS mapping and is also taking care of an employee issue. Mr. Barber said that he is currently getting quotes on items in the budget and that he is inquiring about when some of these items will need to be ordered.
PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF
Mr. Self stated that he is very busy getting the pool up and running for the season. Mr. Self said that he has a new part-time employee that just started working with him. Mr. Self advised the Committee that only a few cars showed up for the first “Movies in the Park” and that Jalen Ponder is going to redo some of the marketing for the event.
