Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met July 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairwoman May called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:34 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Barber, Dan Baumgartner, Kevin Bunge, Arianne Honkamp, Jodi May and Don Self

Staff present: Adam Bunge

Motion by Mrs. Honkamp, second by Ms. May, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of July 5, 2023. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE

Village Engineer Adam Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office. Mr. Bunge stated that the bids came in higher than expected for the Prairie Street parking/patching project. The Committee agreed that it would be a good idea to reject all of the bids and have the project rebid in conjunction with the Franklin Street project to get better pricing.

MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON

Mayor Peterson advised the Committee that there is an opening on the Planning Commission and that he would like to appoint Jamin Unger to that open seat at the Village Board meeting being held on August 1, 2023.

Mayor Peterson stated that the protest that was held on Friday went okay without any problems. Mayor Peterson added that everyone did a fantastic job planning and keeping the Village safe.

Mayor Peterson said that Ms. Diduch emailed out the request for proposal (RFP) for the Sonoco property and that Mr. Danielson has a developer that may be interested.

Mayor Peterson commented that there is a lot of IT stuff going on right now with the upgrading of the server for the Village.

Mayor Peterson stated that he, Ms. Diduch and Mr. Barber have a meeting coming up with someone in reference to car charging stations in the Village.

WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JODI MAY

Ms. May stated that the low bid for the sewer lining project (to include cutting the protruding taps) from Insituform Tech in the amount of $141,900 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on July 18, 2023. Mr. Barber said that this has to get done and that he is dropping a few things in his budget to cover the cost. Mr. Barber stated that this cannot wait or residents may get sewer backed up if the lines break. The Committee was okay with this.

Ms. May said that the purchase requisition for Dahme Mechanical Industries for a scum skimmer arm replacement and clarifier weir adjustments in the amount of $13,000 is also up for approval at the Village Board meeting. The Committee was okay with this.

Ms. May stated that the purchase requisition for Ferguson for fire hydrants, MJ shoes and extension kits in the amount of $18,527.46 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting. The Committee was okay with this.

STREETS AND WALKS – DAN BAUMGARTNER

Mr. Baumgartner stated that the block party permit for 1049 Wake Forest Parkway is also up for approval at the Village Board meeting on July 18, 2023. The Village Clerk advised the Committee that she spoke to the applicant of the block party and that they are aware of the $130 charge for barricades. The Committee is okay with this.

Motion by Mr. Baumgartner to ratify the consensus for the LED upgrade/pole replacement at the Goldie Floberg property from Rock Energy Cooperative in the amount of $3,575.22, second by Ms. May. Roll call. All ayes. Motion approved 3-0.

BUILDINGS AND PARKS – ARIANNE HONKAMP

None.

PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER

Mr. Barber stated that he is meeting with Don Stien tomorrow in reference to the Washington Street project.

Mr. Barber advised the Committee that the activity reports for the Public Works Department will be done bi-weekly.

Mr. Barber added that he has a new Public Works employee that just started.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF

Mr. Self stated that the pool closed early on Friday due to the protest going on in the Village, but that he stayed at the pool the entire time and let everyone know that was coming in at 1 pm that the pool was closing at 3 pm.

Mr. Self said that he has a lot of projects going on and that he is still working on the gazebo in Settlers Park. Mr. Self added that he is also working on cleaning up the berm in Settlers Park.
