Rep. Joe Sosnowski, in collaboration with the Illinois State Treasurer's Office, organized an Unclaimed Property Event in Huntley today. The event, which was attended by Rep. Jeff Keicher and Sen. Dave Syverson, provided assistance to numerous local residents.

The Illinois State Treasurer's Office currently holds a staggering sum of over 5 billion dollars in unclaimed funds for individuals residing in Illinois. These funds are safeguarded by the state until they are claimed by the original owner or their heirs. Notably, the process of reclaiming the lost funds is free of charge and only requires the appropriate identification.

During the event, Rep. Sosnowski emphasized the importance of raising awareness about unclaimed property. He stated, "It's crucial for people to understand that there could be unclaimed funds waiting for them. By partnering with the State Treasurer's Office, we aim to ensure that individuals are able to reclaim what rightfully belongs to them."

The types of unclaimed property held by the state encompass a wide range of financial assets. These include checking and savings accounts, uncashed wage and payroll checks, stock dividends and certificates, insurance payments, utility deposits, customer deposits, accounts payable, credit balances, refund checks, money orders, traveler's checks, mineral proceeds, court deposits, and uncashed death benefit checks and life insurance proceeds.

Rep. Keicher also expressed his support for the event, emphasizing the benefits it brings to the local community. He remarked, "By hosting this event, we are not only assisting individuals in reclaiming their unclaimed property but also contributing to the overall financial well-being of our constituents."

Sen. Syverson echoed the sentiments of his fellow representatives and highlighted the significance of ensuring that unclaimed funds are returned to their rightful owners. He stated, "The Unclaimed Property Event serves as a valuable resource for our community members. It allows them to reclaim their funds and provides a sense of financial security."

The collaboration between Rep. Sosnowski, Rep. Keicher, Sen. Syverson, and the Illinois State Treasurer's Office demonstrates a commitment to serving the residents of Huntley and the wider Illinois community. The event not only educates individuals about the existence of unclaimed funds but also provides them with the necessary tools and guidance to reclaim what is rightfully theirs.

As the event concluded, many local residents expressed their gratitude for the assistance provided. One attendee, who successfully reclaimed their unclaimed funds, shared, "I never realized that I had funds waiting for me. Thanks to this event, I was able to reclaim what was rightfully mine. I am grateful to Rep. Sosnowski and the Illinois State Treasurer's Office for organizing this event."

The Unclaimed Property Event in Huntley serves as a reminder to individuals across Illinois to remain vigilant and proactive in checking for any unclaimed funds in their name. By taking advantage of resources provided by the State Treasurer's Office, individuals can ensure that their financial assets are rightfully returned to them.
