The City of Rockford has declared a Snow Emergency starting at 8 p.m. tonight in anticipation of the approaching winter storm. Enforcement teams will be deployed to ticket offenders who do not comply with parking regulations.

Under the Snow Emergency, parking restrictions will be in place to allow for the safe and effective removal of snow and ice from city streets. Starting tonight at 8 p.m., parking will be prohibited on the even side of the street. Tomorrow, at 8 a.m., parking will be prohibited on the odd side of the street.

City officials have identified a specific residential area between 20th St. west to Kishwaukee St., Harrison Avenue north to Rural St. as particularly problematic for snow removal due to vehicles parked on both sides of the street. Citizens in this area are strongly encouraged to move their vehicles off the street or to the appropriate side as determined by the odd/even parking regulations.

"It is crucial for our crews to have unobstructed access to the streets during snow and ice removal operations. By adhering to the parking restrictions, we can ensure that our plows can effectively clear the roads and maintain public safety," said a spokesperson for the City of Rockford.

During the Snow Emergency, vehicles are allowed to park legally in restricted areas marked as "No Parking" on one side of the street. However, it is important to note that vehicles should not be moved until after the Snow Emergency has been lifted.

Residents are also reminded that all vehicles must be moved to the correct side of the street by 8 a.m. to avoid being towed or ticketed. The City of Rockford and its contractors will not be responsible for plowing alleyways.

As the winter storm approaches and snow accumulates, contractors will begin plowing residential streets once at least 2 inches of snow has fallen. The City of Rockford is committed to ensuring the safety and accessibility of its roadways during winter weather conditions.

Citizens are advised to stay updated on the latest weather information and to exercise caution while traveling.
