Village of Rockton Public Works Committee met Jan. 15.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Mr. Baumgartner called the regular meeting of the Public Works Committee to order at 6:31 pm. Members present: Mayor Peterson, Dan Barber, Dan Baumgartner, Arianne Honkamp and Don Self Staff present: Adam Bunge

Absent: Jodi May

Motion by Mrs. Honkamp, second by Mr. Baumgartner, to waive the reading of and approve the minutes of January 3, 2024. All ayes. Motion approved 2-0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None.

VILLAGE ENGINEER – KEVIN BUNGE

Village Engineer Adam Bunge gave his report. A copy of the engineering status report is on file with the Village Clerk’s office.

MAYOR – JOHN PETERSON

Mayor Peterson stated that the Village has started the process to sell the Goldie Floberg building and that he emailed the concept out to everyone.

Mayor Peterson said that he spoke with Paul Williams, Rockton Township Supervisor, in regards to the PFAS and that he would like to attend one of their township meetings to speak with some of the trustees about this.

Mayor Peterson stated that several municipalities are looking into ordinances to fine the bus companies that are transporting immigrants in the area. Mayor Peterson stated that the Village isn’t home rule and that we could be a target if we don’t have an ordinance in place. Mayor Peterson said that he is going to reach out to Brad Cole from the Illinois Municipal League (IML) in regards to this.

Mayor Peterson stated that the new Village Treasurer, Sally Bennett, started today and that she worked with Dennis Hildebrandt and Jaye Quimby.

Mayor Peterson thanked the Public Works Department for doing a great job on snow removal in the Village after the storm.

WATER, SEWER, & GARBAGE – JODI MAY

None.

STREETS AND WALKS – DAN BAUMGARTNER

None.

BUILDINGS AND PARKS – ARIANNE HONKAMP

Mrs. Honkamp stated that the special events application for Yeti Fest (February 7th-10th) is up for approval at the Village Board meeting on January 16, 2024. The Committee was okay with this.

Mrs. Honkamp stated that the purchase requisition for Rock River Enterprises & Barge for the new floating dock at the boat ramp in the amount of $24,623 is up for approval at the Village Board meeting as well. Mr. Self stated that $20,000 will be in this year’s budget and the remainder will be in next year’s budget. The Committee was okay with this.

PUBLIC WORKS – DAN BARBER

Mr. Barber stated that there was a substantial amount of overtime paid out for the recent snowfall.

Mr. Barber discussed the Public Works job descriptions and pay scales with he Committee and stated that he would like everyone to review them so that they can be added to the employee handbook. Mr. Barber said that this will have to be revisited every 3-4 years and that he will have the attorneys review this as well.

PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR – DON SELF

Mr. Self stated that he has been busy plowing the last week and that the rink is up and running. Mr. Self said that he will clean it more on Wednesday.

Mr. Self advised the Committee that he moved his office to Barwood and that he would like to make a few changes/renovations in order to make it a workable space. Mr. Self stated that he will be budgeting for some of these changes (air conditioning and electrical).

ANY OTHER BUSINESS ALLOWED BY LAW

Mr. Bunge stated that 75% of the lead service replacement inventory has been completed.

Motion by Mrs. Honkamp, second by Mr. Baumgartner to adjourn at 7:02 pm.
